Reiki, (pronounced Ray-Key) is a system of natural healing involving the laying-on of hands, and it works with Ki/Chi, or life-force energy.
It is an extremely safe modality that does absolutely no harm. Other natural therapies claim to have similar effects as Reiki, and they are right in that they all have the energetic principle which aim at stimulating the body’s energy so it will flow smoothly again, removing the blockages, and hence promoting healing.
But while other therapies tend to require detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology, precise techniques and awareness of contra-indications (certain conditions they can’t treat because they might have adverse effects), Reiki requires none of these.
All peoples on earth throughout history have known about the invisible force that seems to keep things alive and going. It was understood that some kind of energy was flowing around, through, and within all living things. The Indians called it Prana, the Chinese called it Chi, the Japanese called it Ki, the Hawaiians called it Huna, etc. And this energy was studied rather thoroughly by shamans, medicine men/women, yoga masters and other energy practitioners.
In the beginning of the 20th century a Japanese man by the name of Mikao Usui discovered the key to this ancient knowledge after a lifelong quest to uncover the source of ancient healing techniques. Mikao Usui founded the Usui System of Reiki.
There are numerous stories which tell the wonders of Reiki. Although true healing is a holistic process and often takes time, we are not short of stories that Reiki helped heal serious illnesses like cancer, heart attacks, strokes, etc. But it is best for us not to boast that Reiki cures diseases or can diagnose: that is simply beyond our qualification. It is advisable that one does not solely depend on Reiki for reclaiming and /or maintaining health. By using common sense, where necessary, we should seek conventional medical care. Reiki is best described at the moment as a style of natural therapy which reduces stress, although practitioners do know it is far more than that!
Reiki can provide one solution by its very nature. It is extremely gentle and non-intrusive. Reiki can do no harm.

Sessions involve the client lying down or sitting comfortably while fully clothed. The practitioner places their hands lightly on the body allowing a free flow of universal energy. It is often recommended you learn Reiki so you can treat yourself daily as well.
